  • Step and Stone Celebration Evening

    Fri 13 Sep 2019

Bristol-based bakery, Step and Stone, makes handmade lavosh flatbreads with a social purpose. Working with young people with learning disabilities, helping to develop their skills and confidence so they can eventually find employment in the mainstream catering world.

We have been fortunate enough to continue our Post 16 partnership with Step and Stone.  Termly, 2 of our students and a member of our support staff have the opportunity to participate in Work Experience at the bakery based within The Park Centre.  This year we look forward to reciprocating this, whereby a young person from the bakery will come with support to do some work experience in our student led café known as the Birds Nest Café.

Yesterday Jo P (our Transitions/Family Engagement Coordinator) and Matt (our Catering Manager) were invited to the Step and Stone Celebration Evening.  It was a wonderful event meeting the team and bakers, Karin Smith, Helen Holland and other professionals including those from Foxes Academy.

  • Step and Stone Bakery - Post 16 Work Experience

    Thu 14 Mar 2019

Step and Stone are a bakery based at The Park Centre in Knowle and is co-founded by two parents whose children have Down's Syndrome.  Since Term 2 we have formed a successful partnership with the Bakery. Both Jane and Jane (co-founders) have visited our Bird's Nest Cafe and have a good understanding of how our cafe runs and its links to accreditation and EHCP targets and outcomes.  To support this, each term two of our Post 16 learners who have a passion in catering and are considering this as a long term aspiration, access work experience at the bakery once a week throughout the term.  A familiar member of staff from school also attends to support.  The opportunity enables our learners to develop and put into practice both social and employability skills.

  • Momo Challenge

    Thu 28 Feb 2019

'A recent social media challenge targeting children and young adults called the ‘Momo Challenge,’ has created concern throughout the country due to its disturbing nature. We are writing to make you aware of this challenge, provide you with information about it, and urge you to monitor your children’s use of social media and the Internet.

The ‘Momo Challenge’ a game found on Facebook and the app WhatsApp, features a frightening character who asks its viewers to perform various tasks and provide photos as proof. The ‘Momo’ threatens those who do not perform the tasks. The ‘Momo’ character is now hacking into YouTube and YouTube Kids, popping up on screens whilst children are watching videos.

We will be working on e-safety in school and telling students that if someone tells you to do something on your device/tablet/phone. Tell your parents or teachers.  You will not be in trouble the person who told you to do it will.

If you would like to learn more about the ‘Momo Challenge’ please visit the links below. Please be warned that some of the images and stories may be disturbing.
