Ilminster Avenue Specialist Nursery Coffee Morning
Fri 27 Apr 2018On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we held two Family Link coffee mornings for families of children from Ilminster Avenue Specialist Nursery. The families were given a tour of the campus and were introduced to some of the staff in school who are supporting the transition process. The families were really impressed with our Post 16 learners who at the time were working hard in our Birds Next Café; lots bought cake including flapjacks and the delicious and ever so popular polenta and orange cake and the banana cake!

A Message From Shan- Appointment of New Headteacher
Fri 20 Apr 2018'I am delighted to announce that the Governors have appointed a new headteacher for September; Mrs Tonya Hill will move from her current school in Cornwall to join New Fosseway.
I know that she is keen to come to visit over the next few months to start to get to know our community and I am really looking forward to introducing her to you all'.

Class Cake Competition
Fri 13 Apr 2018This week we have been raising awareness and fundraising for Autism Awareness Week and Down’s Syndrome Awareness. Each class were set the challenge of designing and baking a cake; the theme was pink, purple and odd socks to represent both causes! After shopping for their ingredients, each class made their cake and presented it in our main foyer for judging where they were scored on appearance, taste and texture. Our judges included 3 students from the BLC Primary School Council, Hope (Admin), Hayley (School Health Assistant) and Leanne (LSA). Here are some photos of the amazing cakes!

Autism Awareness Week and Down's Syndrome Awareness Week- Family Link Coffee Morning
Tue 10 Apr 2018On Tuesday 10th April we were joined by Kathryn Mason from Supportive Parents at our Family Link Coffee Morning. Kathryn spoke about the support and services Supportive Parents offer and also informed parents/carers about The Parent Forum- a place where you can share concerns and struggles in your day to day lives regarding your young people. We also made available a selection of information from the Down Syndrome association website, including copies of their 'Down 2 Earth' magazine and 'Celebrating our Lives' guide which can both be found on their website. Tanzania Stationery Donation Update

World Book Day
Thu 01 Mar 2018On Thursday 1st March 2018 it is World Book Day. We will be celebrating in New Fosseway with a range of reading activities. All students are invited to come along dressed as their favourite book character and join in with all the fun.
On the same day we will also be having a 'Book Reading Coffee Morning' where we will organise for some learners to come and read to family and friends. This will take place in our cafe in the Vocational Centre between 9.30am-11.30am. A letter will be sent home; please return the reply slip if you plan to attend.

Valentine's Disco
Fri 09 Feb 2018On Thursday 8th February it was our family Valentine's disco! It was a fab night and it was lovely to see so many families enjoying the evening. We hope you had fun and enjoyed the dancing, refreshments and the raffle!

Adult Only Cooking Session
Wed 31 Jan 2018On Wednesday of this week it was the first of our adult only cooking sessions in partnership with Bristol Community Learning. On the menu was a tomato based Mediterranean pasta or mushroom, sweetcorn and pesto pasta. Thank you to everyone who took part! During the session Laura (the course tutor) gave information about the British Heart Foundation’s food label decoder. This helps us see the levels of fats and sugars in food. Cooking with Your Child- Session 2
Wed 24 Jan 2018On Wednesday 24th January it was the last of our ‘cooking with your child’ sessions in partnership with Bristol Community Learning. Next week will be the first of our adult only cooking sessions where we will take charge of our Learning Centre (LC) kitchen to do some hot cooking!
Following feedback from the Bristol Community Learning sessions we are in the process of setting up some new courses. If you have any ideas of adult learning you’d be interested in please do let us know and we will do our best in making this happen for you and your child in school. Some popular ideas so far include yoga and Zumba for fitness and well-being, first aid, healthy cooking on a budget, ICT and gardening.

Cooking with Your Child- Session 1
Wed 17 Jan 2018On Wednesday 17th January it was the first of our ‘Cooking With Your Child’ sessions. Working in partnership with Bristol Community Learning, we were joined by Laura; the cooking tutor. Laura taught us how to make healthy bulgur wheat salad and fresh pizzas. Laura also spoke to us about the ‘The Eatwell Plate’, we were all surprised to see how much sugar can be found in foods that we might consider as healthy options.
