  • The Bristol Hotel

    Mon 07 Feb 2022

In partnership with Bristol Works a group of our Post 16 learners had the opportunity to participate in a work place encounter and tour of The Bristol Hotel.

The Human Resources Manager led the tour; the group then took part in a group activity with the Restaurant Supervisor where they learnt new skills of napkin folding and and cutlery polishing.  They also met the Bar Manager, who taught them new barista skills and the Meetings and Events Operations Manager who demonstrated and taught our learners how to lay the dining tables.  These skills excited and prompted our learners to put them into practice when they returned to school to work in our school cafe!

The activities were followed by a question and answer session with the staff to explore and learn more about their career journeys and their roles!

Learners in Swallow and Robin classes had a great opportunity to take part in an art workshop with Heart of BS13 and Alys, the creative who led the workshop.  A main focus of the workshop was climate change.  Our learners thought about what positive changes could be made such as using less electricity, walking, cycling, planting more trees and our part in recycling and using repurposed goods.  Our learners had a great time making towers and other designs to explore this in an engaging practical way!
