Key Stage 1

Hello, welcome to Foundation and key stage 1. We have three classes in the department and we cater for a range of needs. To meet the developmental needs of our pupils we follow a play based early years curriculum. Our lessons and curriculum content are adapted to meet the needs of our pupils.  Please see our aims and visions statement below. If you have any queries please do contact us.

Aims and Values statement Foundation and Key Stage 1

A play-based curriculum

At New Fosseway we believe play is the cornerstone of early learning and the foundation for the rest of a child’s educational journey.

We promote creativity, curiosity and wonder as our overarching aims, enabling children with the skills to not only develop through learning but the ability to engage with and love the world around them.

We put the child first taking the lead from them through providing enriching and immersive experiences. We recognise every child’s journey will look different but together in partnership with parents, staff and other professionals every child will achieve their fullest potential.

Through our play-based curriculum we enable pupils to develop:

  • the skills of interacting appropriately with others
  • the ability to contribute ideas to the play themes and stories
  • a strong sense of well-being, identity and belonging
  • skills for thinking and exploring
  • skills for communicating
  • skills for school and beyond

Pufflings and Ducklings visited the MSHED. We especially enjoyed the lovely views.

World book day 2020

We had great fun making and exploring pancakes. They were so yummy!!

Foundation and key stage 1 pupils love sliding down our hill. This has been extra fun with the icy weather as they found they could slide down even faster!

We have had a lot of fun exploring our space theme this term. We explored making rockets, being aliens and flying in our rocket.

We celebrated Christmas with our Nativity. It was great to share this with so many parents. The students were incredible. They are all stars to us!

We joined together to mark Remembrance day. Pupils made their own poppies and we place these on our bridge during a minute applause (we find being silent very difficult).

Children in Need 2019

We had lots of fun exploring the fruit and veg we planted last year in our garden. We explored digging it up/ collecting it, tasting it and using it to make other food.

Making potions and exploring capacity

Moving up assembly - good luck to all our incredible year two students in their new key stage in September. You are all stars!

Sports day - thank you to all our families who came along.

Thank you to our parents who came in for CAW. We are very lucky to have such wonderful parental engagement. If you didn't make this one don't worry - we have more parental engagement days coming up next year!

We have been very busy exploring our new Wild garden!
