Timetables for Kingfisher class

Kingfisher class has visited he worlds first ocean liner -SS Great Britain and learnt about Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Captain Gray. They experienced seeing the engine , the small beds where people slept and the golden decorated dinner hall.

Kingfisher class have been expanding their French culture vocabulary and later they explored French fashion via the `cat walk`.

Kingfisher class have been travelling around the world and have been visiting  different countries, such as Spain, Poland, Italy and Jamaica, using their passports. They enjoyed a gondola ride in Venice and tasted variety of food and drinks.

Kingfisher class have been cooking Indian dishes for DT Food. We enjoyed making a healthy chicken saag curry and ate it for our lunch. 

This term, Kingfisher class have been learning to say the weather in French. We explored different seasonal activities such as using umbrellas for the rain, going to the beach when it's sunny, and skiing in the snow. 

We learnt to say new phrases:

Il pleut - It's raining

Soleil - Sunny

Il neige - It's snowing

This term, we are cooking biscuits from around the world. This week, we cooked biscuits from India, which are traditionally made for Diwali.

Welcome to Kingfisher Class 2016-2017.



Class timetable

This term, our topic is our local community in Bristol. 

In Kingfisher class, we have been learning about the history and the use of the Docks, Air and Coal mining industries in Bristol. In DT, we will be cooking from different cultures in Bristol. This week, we cooked a healthy Indian curry. 

Celebrating the Queen's birthday! We made British food, listened to the national anthem, had a parade, dressed up as kings and queens and had a tea party.

We have been learning about WW2. We have explored WW2 recipes, shelters and what it was like to live during the war.

Parents' morning. We made some Pizza, had an Easter egg hunt and made some cakes. We sold our cakes in the afternoon to raise money for our trip. Then the parents joined us for dinner in our class.

A brass band came to visit. We got to try all the instruments.

We have explored the story of Oliver's vegetables to help us learn where our food comes from. We learnt about lots of new vegetables.

Parent's art morning. We all had a fun morning making Christmas craft and singing and signing. Thank you for coming in!

We have been getting festive putting our tree up. We learnt the Victorians were the first to have Christmas trees in England.

In science we have been exploring light. We made shadow puppets and put on a show!

Creative arts week


We have had a great week! We made jam tarts, tried graffiti art, printing, clay modelling, painting, dancing, singing, signing and a trip to the Arboretum. Take a look at all the amazing things we made and did.

Today Kingfisher class visited the docks for an exciting boat ride. We sailed along the docks, had a go driving the boat and did some fast turns!

Election day

We started to learn about elections today. We discussed how the Prime Minister could change after today. We talked about how the government make decisions for the whole country and that we get to vote to choose who we want. We then created our own parties and thought about what we would promise. We then shared our speech with other classes and held a ballot. 

Green Day

We celebrated Bristol being voted the Green capital of the year! We came to school dressed in green. We read Michael Recycle. Remember to look for our hero flying across the sky. He won't need to stop in Bristol as we are so Green already! We talked about the three R's - reduce, reuse, recycle. We sorted items into recycling groups. We also reused jelly pots as plant pots and planted some basil. We had lots of fun and really thought about our environment and how we can help look after it.

Kingfisher Class have been planting some sunflower seed. We know a plant needs light, wind, rain, space and food to grow. We are going to look after our flowers and watch them grow. We have also put a potted seed in the cupboard without these thing. We are going to investigate what happens to this seed.



Kingfisher class have been learning how to sew. We practiced on cardboard, then material with large holes and then fabric. We made our purses sewing. 

Goodbye Lauren

Lauren, our student teacher from UWE left today. She has taught us lots of fun things over the term and helped us lots. We will miss her and want to say a big thank you and good Luck. She kindly gave all the children (and adults) an Easter egg to say thank you and goodbye.

Kingfisher Class  and KS2 Visited Bristol City Football Club on the last day of term


We visited Bristol City Football Club on the last day of term. We sat in the directors box and the dug out. We walked through the players tunnel and looked in the home and away dressing rooms. We then learnt about the players who ripped up their contracts to stop the club going bankrupt. We had lots of fun. Thank you Bristol City for showing us around. See what we got up to below:



This term we have been learning about Easter and how it is celebrated around the world. We looked at making kites in Bermuda, decorating eggs in Ukraine and making headbands in Ethiopia. We also had an Easter egg hunt and egg rolling games to see how we celebrate Easter in England.

Bristol Zoo


KS2 visited the Zoo. We saw lots of exciting animals and even got to hold some! We had a great day. Take a look at what we got up to below.

We had a special visitor to Kingfisher class. Ranuka came to talk to the children about Indian food. She brought us lots of lovely things to try. She then showed us some traditional Indian dances. In the afternoon we explored pictures of India and Indian clothes. We had a fun day and now know lots about India. Lots of us said we would like to visit India to see what it is like to live there.
